We have had a hot day here in London and my little monkeys fancied something refreshing!
Paletas are these little icy pops that are very popular in Mexico, we have many flavours and nowadays I bet those flavours are more creative than the traditional ones.
I have very font memories of going to a Paleteria on hot day with my family in Mexico and always order my favourite flavour, chocolate or pistachio! I still love going there when we go to Mexico and it makes me very happy to see my children’s faces when they are choosing their flavour.
In Ensenada, there is this famous chain of paleterias called “La Michoacana”, where they make their own paletas and aguas frescas. It is love in an ice lolly!
My paletas are very easy to make and if you do not have a paleta case maker, you can always use paper cups and put the juice in them and freeze them. I’m sure that once you start making your own Paletas, you will never buy them in the shop.
Makes 10 Paletas
Ingredients
- 1 cantaloupe melon
- 3 tablespoon agave syrup
- Juice of one lime (optional)
- 1 cup of water
- Tajin chilli powder (optional)
Method
Peel the melon and scoop the seeds from the centre. Then cut in chunks.
Place the melon, water, lime juice and agave syrup in a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour the liquid into the paleta container maker and use some wood sticks.
Put them in the freezer until the following day.
Once they are completely frozen, wet the container so it is easy to take the paleta out. Then sprinkle some tajin chilli powder.
Listo!
Provecho!
